Reiki (ray-key) is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is typically administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen 'life force energy flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
The effects of unreleased stress range from minor aches to major health concerns, such as heart disease, digestive disorders, respiratory and skin problems. Reiki is a technique that aids the body in releasing stress and tension by creating deep relaxation. Because of this, Reiki promotes healing and health.
A typical session of Reiki lasts for about 60-70 minutes at maximum. After the Reiki session most people undergoing the treatment feel relaxed and experienced reduced stress soon after the treatment. However sometimes it may take more than one session to experience the effects of Reiki.
Reiki is just like other natural healing modalities and there is no negative effects of Reiki. There are some side efforts of Reiki which occur due to positive changes in the body. When negative energy in the body is taken out by Reiki, body has to make changes to it before you can get better. This is called "Healing Crisis". In fact, the body may try to accomplish this healing by cleansing its organs and tissues of toxins. If this happens, you may experience such side effects as an upset stomach, indigestion, diarrhea or headaches, although these effects should only last for a day or two after treatment. It is imperative that you drink lots of water to help with the healing process.
